Thank you for your interest in volunteering with us at the Girls Day Schools Trust Conference, on Saturday 6th and/or Sunday 7th July
This is an opportunity for volunteers to fundraise for a charity of their choice.
On this page you'll find:
What is this event?
What would I be doing?
Am I what OxFizz is looking for?
Where and when is the event taking place?
1. Overview of the event
At this weekend conference event, our volunteers will be running two different types of workshops with students:
Interview Skills workshops - helping students understanding what skills admissions interviewers are looking for, and practicing with difficult interview questions
Mock Tutorials - helping students experience a realistic mock seminar in their university subject
We believe there is no textbook interview or perfect candidate. Our workshops help students with the skills and practice for the application process, rather than coaching them or helping them rote learn answers.
Our overall aim for the event is for students to leave with a greater understanding of the skills required for their application.
2. What would I be doing?
At this event, our volunteers will be matched with students who are applying to the subject area they studied at university.
You’ll be running workshops with these students, helping them prepare and practice for their application.
We’ll support you with a detailed workshop outline to work from - and you’ll choose some topics and practice questions to focus on with your students. At the end of each workshop, you’ll help students create an ‘action plan’ with SMART goals to work on going forward in their application.
3. What we're looking for
We’re looking for recent graduates from top universities who are passionate about supporting the next generation of students. We welcome volunteer sign ups from a range of subject backgrounds.
Our workshop leaders will:
Receive our full workshop outlines and volunteer guidance in advance
Deliver Interview Skills Workshops and/or Mock Tutorials in their university subject
Work with students in your subject area, and help them to leave the workshops with clear plans and goals for their university preparation going forward
Workshops will generally be in small group sizes of 4 - 8. though with popular subjects like Medicine or Engineering the group sizes may be larger.
OxFizz staff will be there on the day to observe different workshops and support you to deliver the sessions.
4. Travel and logistics
The venue for this event is St Anne’s College, Oxford, OX2 6HS
This is a 5 minute taxi drive from Oxford station, which is connected to London Marylebone.##
